Los Angeles has a new experimental art and design gallery –  THE NEW. Now on view is a body of work from Videre Licet entitled “Meltforms” The exhibition consists of a series of glass and metal sculptural lightboxes illuminated with internal LED lights.
The idea came to life when artistic duo, designer Daniele Albright and design curator Stefan Lawrence, began working with glass about a year ago, attracted to its natural beauty and luminous qualities. The Meltforms lightboxes are the result of their initial experimentation with the material and each piece is unique. To create them, different colors of glass are melted in furnaces and poured onto a steel plate, where they are folded into each other while molten and then rolled through a steel mill to flatten them into sheets, creating unique patterns as the glass colors melt and fuse into each other. The result is visually stunning, and somewhat hypnotic. The Meltforms lightboxes play with luminosity, pattern and color which are all facets of our cognitive process, subconsciously informing how we understand the world, and at times leading us into higher states of mind.
Keep watch as THE NEW presents a rotating exhibition calendar of unique and limited edition fine design and paired with cultural events related to art, design and architecture.
“Meltforms” is on view now through January 6, 2019.
